1/2 Team News

Wow! It's Week 8 already! Assessments are done and we are proud of the progress that our students have made since the start of the year. The Tier 2 Maths program was successful and was a fantastic way for the classroom teachers to connect with students across all classes, and also a great opportunity to make new friendships or reconnect with friends from last year. We are also looking forward to showing you what our students have been working on in our upcoming Open Classroom in Week 10- see you there!
Reminders:
Parent-teacher interviews are in Week 10. Bookings can be made via Sentral and are face-to-face with homeroom teachers this term, unless other arrangements have been made with your child's classroom teachers to attend this online.
Take-home readers: Students are encouraged to change take-home readers weekly. They are reminded every Friday but are welcome to change them on any other day of the week.
Term 3 costume requirements were sent home via notice last week. Each double class has different outfits. If you did not receive this, please check your child's school bag first (somewhere in the depths of the bag, you might find lots of things!) or contact your homeroom teacher for a new copy.
Jump to it! We have a lot of named and unnamed jumpers floating around Learning World 1 and in the playground areas. We encourage students to be mindful of their belongings and consolidate individual organisational skills. If the clothing item is unclaimed at the end of the week, all clothes will be taken to 'Lost Property' for the remainder of the year.
Spanish News
In Spanish Literacy, students are currently creating informative texts about their neighbourhoods. They are developing their writing skills by learning how to revise and edit their work to improve clarity and accuracy. Students are focusing on using effective titles and subtitles, applying correct punctuation, and identifying when to use upper- and lower-case letters appropriately. They are also learning how to expand their ideas by adding more detail and descriptive information about places within their neighbourhoods, such as playgrounds, parks, swimming centres, basketball courts, and football ovals. Through this process, students are building their Spanish vocabulary, strengthening their sentence-writing skills, and developing confidence as independent writers.
In Spanish Maths, following two weeks of assessments, students have been focusing on developing efficient addition and subtraction strategies. They have been learning and practising strategies including bridging to ten, finding the nearest ten, and identifying missing numbers needed to make ten. Students have also explored doubles and near doubles facts to improve their number fluency and recall. Through hands-on activities, games, and problem-solving tasks, they are strengthening their understanding of number relationships and developing flexible strategies that can be applied to mathematical problems as well. These skills are helping students build confidence and accuracy when working with numbers.
English News
In Literacy, we have been completing our information report unit, gathering information about Australia and reviewing text structures to organise information. We have some 'heading' and 'sub-heading' experts and been organising our ideas into paragraphs. Next term, we are focusing on persuasive texts, so prepare yourselves for some strong arguments for ponies for Christmas, bigger payouts from the tooth fairy or chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
In Maths, we are re-visiting addition and subtraction strategies. Ask your child what words such as 'partitioning, bridging, renaming, regrouping, split strategy, altogether, less than and total' mean and how we use number lines, tens frames and MAB tools to solve number sentences- they might just teach you something new!
