Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The Year 7 class recently embarked on their own journey of discovery, travelling more than 1,500 kilometres north to the Top End for our joint camp with Milkwood Steiner School students.
For many students, this was their first experience travelling so far from home and venturing into the tropical landscapes of the Northern Territory. The long bus journey itself became part of the adventure, with students building new friendships, learning resilience, and experiencing the changing landscapes of our vast country.
During the camp, students visited some remarkable places within Kakadu National Park, including ancient Indigenous rock art sites that offered a powerful insight into one of the oldest continuing cultures in the world. Students also explored the famous Yellow Water wetlands, cruising quietly through crocodile habitat while observing the rich tropical flora, birdlife, and unique geology of the region.
Back in the classroom, our Year 7 Main Lesson has focused on the Age of Discovery, exploring the courageous voyages of figures such as Christopher Columbus and Ferdinand Magellan. Through these stories, students have been considering how human beings pushed beyond the known world, reshaping trade, geography, and humanity’s understanding of the Earth itself.
Our camp experience became a living reflection of these themes. Like the explorers we have studied, students stepped beyond familiar boundaries, encountered new environments, and experienced both the challenges and rewards that come with adventure, curiosity, and perseverance.
The camp was a wonderful opportunity for students to grow in independence, strengthen friendships, and deepen their understanding that behind every great idea, journey, or discovery lies courage, resilience, and the willingness to step into the unknown.
Best regards,
Pam & Dan
