Our student leaders assisted in running an assembly for the beginning of Term on Wednesday 9th October. There was discussion around the expectations of Term 4, and also the exciting times ahead, with the Year 9 student leaders presenting and sharing their experiences of being in Year 9 and how to properly prepare for it.
During the last week of Term 3, Koori Engagement Leader Keyanna organised a cultural art and craft afternoon.
Koori students in Year 8 and 9 were rewarded for their engagement in their learning or attendance.
The afternoon consisted of possum skin burning, learning Aboriginal art symbols, creating art pieces, weaving, decorating boomerangs and clapsticks.
It was also a nice opportunity for students to connect and interact with one another in an informal setting.
There will be a similar event held at the end of Term 4 with all year levels involved.
Next year, Bairnsdale Secondary College has a unique opportunity for Year 9 students to attend the Snowy River School for Student Leadership program. The School for Student Leadership is a Victorian Department of Education initiative offering a residential education experience for Year 9 students. The curriculum focuses on personal development and collaborative team learning projects sourced from student’s home regions. Selected students will attend a term-long program in which they develop their leadership skills through team-building exercises with the goal of using these skills in both the school and the wider community.
This year we had a large number of Year 8 students interested in attending the program as Year 9 students in 2025 and a selection process took place. Ms Anderson, Ms Schneider and Miss Hocking, along with students who attended the 2024 School for Student leadershipconducted a number of interviews with all applicants throughout Week 10of Term 3 and we were blown away by the confidence and leadership skills shown by all students.
We are pleased to announce our Snowy Student Leadership Team for 2025:
