Wellbeing

Purpose    I    Positive Emotions    I   Relationships   I   Meaning    I    Accomplishment

The focus for Wellbeing in Term Four is Positive Coping, which works perfectly with preparing our students for their first camp experience. Students will begin the positive coping unit by developing an understanding that everyone has different fears, responses, and coping strategies and that we need to recognise and respect these individual differences. We facilitate discussions about the range of emotions the children may be feeling about spending two nights away from home. They will be provided with opportunities to investigate help-seeking strategies through collaborative problem-solving cards and role playing a variety of scenarios that may present at camp, all designed to allay any fears.

As you will see on the homework grid, we also have table setting, bed making and bag packing as tasks designed to make the children feel more organised and comfortable about what to expect. Students will recognise the need to understand how emotional responses vary in depth and strength and how different situations can lead to strong emotions. They will learn strategies to control these emotions and reflect on the effectiveness of these strategies.

Students will be given the opportunity to set new goals based on the school norms and their future learning. They will reflect on how one's actions can impact others both positively and negatively. This includes how to receive constructive respectful feedback and how to complete a restorative apology.

In addition to learning about positive coping, students will engage in activities from the Visible Wellbeing program designed to support the building of good relationships.
