Welcoming Our Japanese Exchange Students
This term, we were delighted to welcome Reina and Tomoha, two Japanese exchange students, who joined our college community for four weeks. Their time with us was made possible through the generosity of two of our families – the Tan family and the Singh family – who kindly opened their homes and hearts to host them.
During their stay, Reina and Tomoha were warmly embraced by the St Norbert community. They were paired with our Year 9 Japanese students as buddies and quickly became part of daily school life. They visited buddy classes across English, Mathematics, Religious Education and more, immersing themselves in the rhythm of a St Norbert student’s day.
Tomoha, who has a passion for music, eagerly joined the choir, while both girls confidently volunteered for Shakespeare roles in English class, impressing everyone with their enthusiasm and courage. They also visited our Years 7 and 8 Japanese classes, as well as the Years 5 and 6 classes at St Joseph’s School, where they shared their culture and stories from Japan.
Their presence gave our students a unique opportunity to engage with Japanese culture first-hand and to form friendships that extend beyond borders. At the same time, Reina and Tomoha gained the invaluable treasure of being “one of us,” fully immersed in our community and school life.
We thank Reina and Tomoha for sharing their energy, warmth, and talents with us. Their time here has left lasting memories for our students and staff alike.
