Numeracy Week
3.14159265…..
We began our Numeracy Week activities last Friday with the Pi Writing Competition.
Seven students took part, showcasing incredible memory and focus. Nathan Rapirap (Year 10) was the winner with a brilliant 205 digits correct. Congratulations, what an amazing effort! Poleen Infante (Year 10) came second with 127 digits, and Ethan Foo (Year 7) came third with 81 digits.
Congratulations to all our participants – Ethan Sayula, Shania Mascarenhas, Sharon Sony, and Perla Thomas!
On Wednesday morning, students from across the school took part in a high-energy Mathematics Kahoot during extended homeroom. With quick thinking, teamwork, and plenty of excitement, each class battled it out to claim the top spot. In the end, it was P2 who came out on top, taking the win and proving their maths skills. Congratulations to P2 for their sharp answers and teamwork – and a big well done to all students who joined in!
The most exciting competition was left till the last. The Pi(e) Eating Competition had fourteen participants, including Mr Mancini and Mr Graf. It took place outside the Learning Hub with participants having to finish eating a pie. It was a very close competition with Ameil Pedro taking home the first place and coming in a close second, Raven Micosa. Both students won a $5 canteen voucher.
It was a well-received week and the Mathematics Department wishes to thank everyone who made this a success. We look forward to seeing more participants next year and remember, “The study of Mathematics, like the Nile, begins in minuteness but ends in magnificence.” Charles Caleb Colton.
