Club de Español

We have reached the end of the term at the Spanish Club in a very special and meaningful way. At the beginning of the year, we wanted the Spanish Club to be a place not only for kids but for parents as well, and not only for those who can speak Spanish, but for those interested in learning a little bit of the language and the different traditions from the Hispanic world.
Over the months we laughed, we listened to music and enjoyed delicious food. Our little group kept growing and we were thrilled to start seeing more families from non-Spanish speaking households joining us.
In our last session, the activity was created and lead by Matt, a parent from one of those non-Spanish speaking families. He did an amazing job putting into practice what he has been learning in Duolingo. The topic was “La conexión Árabe y Española” (The Arabic and Spanish connection). We learned that there are more than 4000 words in Spanish that come from Arabic. Matt, using an amazing level of Spanish, did a presentation about the connection’s history and he taught us how to make tessellations to replicate the stunning Islamic artwork found on the mosaic at the Alhambra.
We are looking forward to the next term and the new activities we have organised. All Spanish and non-Spanish speakers are welcome.
Nos vemos pronto!
