Principal's Message

Principal: Karen Butler

Assistant Principal: Meriden James & Rhiana Macrae

We are so excited to remind our community that Yarra Road Primary School will be celebrating its 100 Year Anniversary on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th! It is truly an honour to be part of such an incredible school, rich with history, tradition, and a strong sense of community. Reaching this milestone is a moment to reflect on the generations of students, staff, and families who have shaped Yarra Road into the amazing school it is today.  We can’t wait to celebrate with you and our community!

Events for the 100-Year Celebration

On Friday 12 September (9:10am – 12:15pm), our current school community is invited to enjoy a morning of celebrations, beginning with the Opening Ceremony and student performances on the top basketball court, followed by the Photo Exhibition, Art Show and Silent Auction, and concluding with Open Classrooms featuring decade displays. Then on Saturday 13 September (11:00am – 3:30pm), we open our doors to the whole community with a wonderful program including classroom displays, live performances, food and drinks, silent auction, art show, photo display, animal farm, and games, finishing with a basketball exhibition at 2:45pm. It promises to be a weekend full of fun, memories, and celebration. Please go to the 100 Year celebration section of this newsletter to see detailed information and maps.

100-Year Celebration Volunteers – Still Time to Join!

We are looking forward to a wonderful day, and there’s still time to get involved! If you’d like to be part of this special milestone and help the day run smoothly, we’d love for you to sign up as a volunteer. Thank you to the many parents that have already signed up to participate.

Thank You to Croydon Men’s Shed

We would like to sincerely thank the Croydon Men’s Shed for their time and effort in updating our much-loved tram picture at the front of the school. Their care and craftsmanship have brought new life to this special feature, and it looks absolutely fantastic. We are so grateful for their ongoing support of our school and community.

Celebrating Our New Murals

We are so proud to share the completion of our stunning mural artworks, created in collaboration with artist Angharad Neal-Williams. These vibrant pieces were thoughtfully designed and beautifully painted by our students, making them a true reflection of the creativity and spirit of Yarra Road Primary School. The murals not only brighten our school grounds but also showcase the incredible talent and teamwork of our students. A big thank you to Angharad for guiding the process and to our students for bringing the artworks to life!

A Huge Thank You!

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents and students who gave up their time to support our recent working bee. Your hard work, energy, and enthusiasm made such a difference, and our school grounds are looking fantastic thanks to your efforts. We are so grateful for the wonderful way our community comes together to care for and take pride in Yarra Road Primary School. Thank you also to Plant Growers Australia for your generous donation of plants.

ThinkUKnow Parent Presentation

📅When: Tuesday 28th October

🕡 Time: 6:30pm – 8:00pm

📍Where: Year 5/6 Building, Yarra Road Primary School

We are excited to invite all Yarra Road Primary School parents and carers to a ThinkUKnow presentation on Tuesday 28th October, from 6:30pm – 8:00pm.

ThinkUKnow is a national, evidence-based program delivered in partnership with the Australian Federal Police, industry partners, and state and territory police. The program provides parents and carers with up-to-date information about what young people see, say, and do online. It covers topics such as:

  • Popular apps and platforms children and young people use

  • The challenges and risks they may face online

  • Practical strategies to help parents support their children to stay safe

The session is designed to give families the tools and confidence to have open conversations about online safety and to recognise when and where to seek help.

We strongly encourage all parents to attend this informative evening. Together, we can ensure our children develop positive online behaviours and navigate the digital world safely.

Please note, due to the sensitive nature of the content, this ThinkUKnow presentation is for parents of our school only, and is not suitable for children or students to attend.

SunSmart Reminder

As a reminder, from the beginning of September, all students are required to wear a school hat when playing and learning outdoors. If they do not have a hat, they will be required to stay under cover / in a shaded area, until they have a hat to wear.
