Over the past 2 weeks we have welcomed families and future students to our Kinder Orientation sessions. These mornings were filled with warmth, discovery, connection and community as we introduced our 2026 Kinder cohort to the exciting world of early learning.
Last week 2026 Kinder parents were invited to their own orientation where we shared about what Kinder looks like at DCS. Parents had a special storytime moment, setting the tone for the nurturing and engaging environment we strive to create. Meanwhile, the children spent time with Mrs Lenise Copas, Mrs Lauren Heagney, other DCS team members, and our wonderful Year 5/6 student helpers.
It was a fantastic morning in Kinder! Children chose from a variety of name-making activities and explored our vibrant learning spaces, both indoors and outdoors, until the rain gently brought us inside. We then enjoyed snack time together, building a sense of community and comfort.
A highlight was the big book story I Went Walking, which sparked laughter and excitement as children guessed the animals and made their sounds. Mrs. Heagney also taught a fun name song, and everyone had a turn singing to each other, an engaging way to learn names and build friendships.
This week in our second session, the children returned with growing confidence, now more familiar with the Kinder environment and the friendly faces around them. It was heartwarming to see their comfort and enthusiasm with which they walked into the space.
While the children continued their exploration and play, parents participated in a special session in Jiloa. Here, a panel of current DCS families shared their experiences and insights about Kinder at our school. It was a valuable opportunity for new families to hear firsthand about the journey ahead and ask questions in a supportive setting.
In Term 4 we will welcome back our 2026 Kinder community with a further two sessions as we continue to welcome these wonderful families into the DCS community.
Our Wetland Warriors would love your help! If you have some good, used gumboots stashed away that no longer fit your children (and have no holes!) we would love to hear from you!
Our Warriors are in need of some gumboots of suitable sizing for 7-9 year old children.
Please drop any donations to the front office. Thank you from the Wetland Warriors team.
