Year 2 Mainstream 

Celebrating Learning

What we have been up to: 

It has been a fantastic term for the Year 2 mainstream classes, finishing off with a week of swimming lessons and a trip to the Botanical Gardens next week. Students have also wound up the integrated topic with a planning, organising and presenting of an imaginary celebration. They worked in pairs considering all the elements needed to have a successful celebration; invitation list, invitation design, food, entertainment and decorations. 

Next term we will be investigating Design Solutions. Watch out for more information coming early next term.

Maths:

Students continued to investigate multiplication and division and put their skills into practice answering real life worded problems. They used arrays, fact families and concrete materials and it was exciting to see just how much they have learnt over the unit. 

English:

Students continued to focus on the Little Learners Love Literacy stage 7.2 sounds ir, ur and er and air as in fair. They will also focus on stage 7.4 sounds in phonics. These sounds include: i-e as in bike, i as in find, ge as in gem, gi as in giant, gy as in gym.

Students are continuing to explore the writer’s process by developing a plan from a seed, then drafting, revising, editing and publishing. This will contribute to their end of year published book.

What’s to come in the next two weeks:

We hope everyone has a very safe and happy two-week break. We love hearing about all the exciting events students get up to over the holidays, so if you have any pictures or souvenirs, they can share with the class and use to prompt their writing, please send them in. 

Spring Seeds Excursion: Royal Botanical Gardens - Tuesday 16th September 2025

Students must arrive by 9:00am to catch the 9:16 train from Thornbury Station. Students must wear their school uniform and should bring a small bag with recess, lunch and a water bottle. At this stage the weather forecast is a little threatening, if it stays that way, bring a rain jacket just in case & appropriate shoes, and a hat at your discretion.

Year Two Day Camp - Thursday 23rd October 2025

Please ensure you have completed the dietary requirements form for the Year Two Day Camp by the end of this term and return it to your child’s teacher.
