Ultimate Frisbee

From Gus “Team well organised, won 13 games”

Coach Josh Vella was pleased with the attitude of the team and their response to tougher games. A special mention to the following players who really impressed: Elodie, Forrest, Wolfie, Gus, Ethan, and supported by Lewis and Manny. Felix W brought his Dad’s high level experience to strategy and rules. The team was organised into coaching line leaders as below.

Volleyball/Newcombe

Raph has experience in playing volleyball, so on the day he was able to help all the schools develop their understanding of the game, and to perform practice drills. The teams were competitive and played both versions of the game Newcombe and Volleyball. Raph has been keen to encourage the students to learn volleyball skills and rules. The team had a successful competition!

Spike ball

The newest game had a small but enthusiastic team that played lots of games across the morning. Spike ball is played with a round net, with a single player or as doubles. It is played with a tennis size rubber ball that bounces off the net using the palm of your hand. The skill in this game is high, so to play the game well requires a high level of skill. Kim helped the team through coaching and sideline support. Feedback from some of the team (Calix, Hector, Kaede, Mabel, Zaidan, Louie N) was enthusiastic.

GAGA PIT REPORT

The game continues to attract a lot of attention as it is high energy. The skills of the children are improving and hence the discussion of rules has been a priority. We are looking at adding a beginner’s day to allow the children who are not so confident to increase their skills and confidence. We do have a timetable that operates at recess and lunch. The school council has approved some funds to be put toward artificial turf for the interior of the Gaga Pit, so you shouldn’t have quite so much washing once this is installed. Nonetheless the game has been a great success!!

LOOKING AHEAD

The Colour Fun run is going ahead again in 4th term on Wednesday, 19th November. More information will be provided as we move closer to the day. The water pistols and some colour from last year will be brought out again on the day! The event is a fundraiser and goes towards supporting the school programs. The school is continuing to look for ways to support the children in the restricted yard space such as opening the library, increasing the number of students going to Henderson Park, and the Gaga Pit.  Thanks to Erica; we also have a grant from Darebin Council and are currently looking at ideas for games and equipment that we can use in Henderson Park,  that fit within Darebin Council’s guidelines.
