Gardening

This fortnight in gardening students have been learning techniques for propagating plants from cuttings.
We discussed the functions of different parts of plants, for example:
Roots anchor the plant and absorb water and nutrients
Stems support the plant and transport water and food
Leaves perform photosynthesis to create food (like a solar panel makes energy)
Flowers are the reproductive organs which make seeds.
Students then made cuttings from plants such as Cut leaf Daisy, Correa, Old Man Salt bush, Hardenbergia, Rosemary and Salvias.
There's nothing like a big pile of mulch to get the students active in the garden! It's been great seeing the students working together to fill wheelbarrows, transport and spread across the school grounds, whilst also coming up with business names and ideas.
Term 4 Working Bee
Our next working bee is Saturday October 11 (first weekend of Term 4). We would love some help to build a new garden bed near the Babajen, and to organise the tool shed and nursery. We hope to see you there!
