Celebrating Learning

Main Lesson

What a joy it was to share our performance of Demeter and Persephone with you last night! The children shone with confidence and heart, and it was wonderful to see how their weeks of preparation came together in such a beautiful way. They showed not only presentation skills, but also the ability to listen carefully to one another, respond to different audiences, and use language with awareness of each character’s role and motivation. Their creativity in designing and crafting costumes based on their growing knowledge of the ancient Greek gods and myths gave the performance depth. They can all be proud of their achievement!

In the lead-up to the play, those not rehearsing particular scenes were busy honing their summary-writing skills, producing thoughtful summaries of each of the play’s eleven scenes. This literacy work supported their understanding of the story’s flow and added another layer of reflection to the performance process.

Mathematics

Meanwhile, in mathematics we have been exploring fractions in a variety of ways. Some children are consolidating their understanding of how to identify and represent fractions, while others have been extending their skills into calculating equivalences, simplifying, and adding and subtracting fractions. We have used both visual models and formal calculations, allowing students to engage with fractions in a variety of ways.

Morning Circle and Assembly

Our daily morning circle continues to ground us, beginning with movement, breathing, and times table patterns before moving into our play songs. This Monday at assembly, the children will sing one or two pieces from the play—offering an echo of last night’s performance for the wider school community.

We are so proud of the children for all that they have achieved over these past weeks, and we thank you once again for your support in helping them learn their lines.
