VISUAL ART

Insect Sculptures by Year 1/2

Students in Years 1 and 2 have been exploring sculpture this term. They designed and planned a 3D insect, then built the armature (structure) using paper, foil, and tape, making sure to include the three main body parts. After covering their sculptures with papier-mâché, they painted them in bright neon colours before adding details such as eyes, six legs, two antennae, and wings. The results are wonderfully creative and full of character!

Spotlighting Bullying – Seeds of Change Art Exhibition

Our school was proudly represented once again in the Spotlighting Bullying – Seeds of Change art exhibition at the Track Gallery, Mount Waverley (4–14 September), with the official opening held on World Suicide Prevention Day. The art exhibition was a great success with over 400 people visiting the gallery!

Foundation and Year 3/4 students reflected on the theme by asking: “What lifts you up when things are hard?” and “What helps you and others feel safe and supported?” Together, they brainstormed small but powerful actions that can prevent bullying, such as standing up for others, speaking kindly, helping friends, and including everyone. These everyday actions became the “seeds of change” that grow into a safer, kinder community.

The Year 3/4 mural was inspired by interactive street artist Kelsey Montague and her What Lifts You? campaign, which celebrates positivity, individuality, and connection. Each student designed a bird in Montague’s style, decorated with zentangle patterns and a positive message about what lifts them or others in tough times. The flock of birds came together to form a vibrant mural of hope, kindness, and community.

PERFORMING ARTS

It has been an exciting time in Performing Arts these last two weeks. Students from Foundation to Year 2 visited Hamer Hall to watch and listen to the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra performing. While students in Years 3 to 6 have been part of a four-day incursion with the Australian Ballet.

Seventeen of our Year 5 and 6 students also took part in the Victorian State School Spectacular. These students have been rehearsing during their lunchtimes since Term 1 and on Saturday took part in two, three-hour performances at John Cain Arena.

They are all to be commended on their hard work, perseverance, patience and talent. A special mention goes to Keenan Fauzin who auditioned for and was accepted into the elite Victorian School Choir. Keenan showed great initiative and talent.
