Victorian President's Report
Tina King - APF Victorian President
As we progress through the term, the holiday season may feel like a distant memory. The year has begun with significant events and activity, and it is evident that many challenges are placing a considerable burden on our school leaders.
A key issue of concern is the School Savings Bonus, which has generated widespread frustration amongst schools. Feedback indicates that the initiative has led to increased administrative workloads, particularly due to instances where parents use vouchers at non-preferred suppliers or suppliers who have been removed from the authorised list without prior notice or communication to schools.
Adding to these challenges, school staff seeking support from the Department’s allocated SSB contact line, are experiencing lengthy wait times on hold, while email inquiries remain unanswered. Despite assurances that this program would not impose a substantial additional workload on schools, the reports we are receiving suggest otherwise. I have communicated these concerns to the Minister’s office, and we will continue to advocate strongly on this matter.
Another key area of concern is the presence of NDIS therapists in schools. Principals are increasingly receiving requests for these therapists to provide services on school grounds during school hours. To support school leaders in navigating this issue, I have dedicated a section in the newsletter that outlines the Department’s policy and provides guidance to assist in determining whether to grant permission.
Our member survey on the proposed APF EBA log of claims has now closed, and we sincerely appreciate the strong participation from members. We are grateful for the valuable insights provided through the large number of survey responses. The feedback reflects overwhelming support for the key elements of our log of claims. Our EBA bargaining team is now in the process of formalising these elements into the official document for submission to the Department.
Finally, we are pleased to welcome the recent influx of new members. We encourage our current members to continue spreading the word and advocating for the APF as the only industrial body and union that exclusively represents Principals and Assistant Principals with unwavering dedication and commitment.
As always, if you are in need of advocacy or support please do not hesitate to reach out for assistance.
