Miss Mel's Message

Principal - St Brigid's Primary School

Term 3, Week 8

It is wonderful to be feeling the warmth coming back into the air and seeing the first signs of spring. It certainly lifts the energy and positive vibes.

Learning at St Brigid’s continues to be celebrated with examples of our senior learning investigation (science) projects in the foyer. Please also remember to check out our learning and teaching posts each fortnight in the newsletter. In addition, a reminder that teachers are also sharing the ongoing learning that is happening in the classroom, through regular See Saw posts. We hope that these posts are a prompt to engage in some learning conversations with your child or children when they come home. We continue to share news through our social media: Facebook and Instagram. Our community Kindness walk also made it into the Gazette this week!

St Brigid’s has a range of additional support teams that meet on a regular basis to review and discuss individual children’s progress, group concerns, learning and behavioural data, interventions, extensions and to note any challenges presenting that require action or adjustments. These teams include our Wellbeing team, Positive Behaviours for Learning team, Planning teams, and our Leadership team.

Should you have any concerns or questions regarding your own child, please make time to chat with the class teacher first. By following this process, the classroom teacher has an opportunity to respond and support you and your child, they also ensure all relevant people are made aware, and all information is passed on in preparation for any actions. Should you require further support, or a chat, we have a range of support people, and processes in place to assist.

On occasion, leadership or teachers may contact you first, if we see a need or have a concern that requires some intervention, action or clarification. At times, we understand that you may need leadership advice or support directly, and we are always happy to meet with you. We believe that authentic conversations, timely intervention and/or support ensure success in academic, emotional and social growth.

All decisions made at St Brigid’s are made with our little people, the heart of our school, in mind. Our teams work together to look at the holistic growth and development of each individual person, and what they need at that time. Your trust in us, to do this work, is what makes our community great.

Check out the building update pics - new plans for the downstairs area. On your next visit in, you will notice the new room adjacent to the ramp. This will be a great space for some of our extra programs, supports and extensions that we run.

Call For Kindness

During the recent National Anti-Bullying week, our school decided to hold a week-long campaign dedicated to promoting and inspiring kind and compassionate behaviour as our focus - we called it our "Call for Kindness".

As part of the week, we had classroom activities, guest speakers from the community who shared their experiences of kindness and uplifting words of encouragement with our students, lunchtime kindness-themed activities and our week culminated with a school-wide wearing of orange to demonstrate a visible show of our school being unified towards kindness, compassion and inclusion. On this national day of action, we also walked to our nearby town oval and as a school community formed the word "KIND" and had a drone capture this from above. We then created smaller versions of this as individual classes and held a school-wide kindness relay where we exchanged positive, kind and uplifting messages as we ran back and forth.

Throughout the week our school was a sea of orange from the foyer entrance inwards and it was great to highlight just how many kind acts are part of our day both as givers and receivers. In focussing on kind acts and words, it was a great conversation starter about identifying the happy positives for both us and the recipients and how this is in direct contrast to the negativity, sadness and pain we feel with cruel and unnecessary unkind words and actions.
