How to make a bird: Foundation

Foundation AS: Writer’s Notebook

The children created some beautiful birds out of natural materials.

Then they gave their birds a name, a setting and a personality trait or two.

After that the children had a go writing a little story using the prompts:

Somebody: Who is in the story?

Wanted: What did they want?

But: Add a complication

So: Then what happened?

Then: How did the complication get resolved?

Foundation CL Bird Creations

After reading the mentor text ‘How to make a bird’ by Meg McKinlay, FCL were inspired to make their own birds using nature! We explored all the different parts of a bird to ensure each bird included the body parts needed. Look how wonderful our creations turned out!

Foundation PH

Foundation PH loved reading How to Make a Bird and were very inspired. We thought about the features of a bird and described these in our Writers’ Notebooks.

We used a variety of natural items to create our own birds. They are unique and beautiful. We’ve set them free and are planning adventures for them.
