Yarra River Adventure: Year 8 Outdoor Education
By Andrew Lockrey (Secondary Teacher)
Last Friday the Year 8 Outdoor Education Students went to Wonga Park for a half day rafting on the Yarra River rapids.
We all pulled on wetsuits and jumpers and hopped into our two person rafts.
After spending a little time acclimatising and learning the strokes, we went down the river. There were a series of obstacles we needed to navigate, and a handful of rapids that challenged us.
Many who were apprehensive at the start said it was a really enjoyable experience, and there were a number of students who either fell in or decided to go for a swim at the end of their journey.
Undoubtedly, hot showers and a good meal after a day of adventure would have added an extra layer of satisfaction.
Year 9 Program - City Experience Day 1
By Ben White (Year 9 Program Co-ordinator)
Last Friday marked the beginning of an exciting journey for our Year 9 students as they embarked on their City Experience in the heart of Melbourne's CBD. It was a day filled with exploration, education, and a touch of artistic inspiration.
We started our adventure by boarding the train together and heading towards Flinders Street station. Right from the start, the students exhibited enthusiasm and readiness for the day ahead. As we gathered at Federation Square, we took a moment to familiarise ourselves with the emergency meeting points, ensuring everyone's safety while we navigate the bustling city.
Our first stop was an encounter with Melbourne's vibrant street art scene. ACDC Lane, Duckboard Place, and Hozier Lane offered an array of colourful, thought-provoking artwork amongst some of the quieter streets. It was a great opportunity for our students to appreciate the creativity that thrives within Melbourne's laneways.
Next, we ventured to the historic State Library, where the students explored the intriguing Ned Kelly exhibit and the enchanting World of the Book. The architectural grandeur of the library added an extra layer to the experience, making it a memorable visit.
Overall, the first day of our Year 9 City Experience was a resounding success. The students' behaviour and engagement were commendable, and the weather couldn't have been better. As we look forward to the days ahead, we are excited about the learning opportunities and adventures that await us in our vibrant city. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our exploration of Melbourne's rich culture and history!
Swinging into Fun: Our Exciting New Playground!
By Cathleen Barker (Head of Primary School)
We're thrilled to announce a fantastic new addition to our Primary School Playground!
The eagerly anticipated rings, jungle gym, and turning bars have been successfully installed in our primary school play area. The students had a unanimous wish for "Monkey Bars" to be added to our playground, and after patiently waiting, their dream has now become a reality.
The equipment is in place and being actively enjoyed by our students, who are sporting big smiles all around. Many of them eagerly attempt to beat their personal bests, while others strive for greater speed and agility.
I took the opportunity to ask some of our Year 3 students about their thoughts on the new equipment, and here's what they had to say:
"It's really challenging and exciting!"
"I feel so strong when I make it across the whole length."
"Since a lot of people have been using them, you sometimes have to wait your turn."
"They come in different heights, so even the preppies can give them a try."
"This addition was much needed because we used to have them before the new building was constructed."
"They're awesome and great; I can practice on them because I don't know how to do it yet."
As a Primary Community, we are extremely grateful for this excellent addition to our play space.
So, if you're in the area, come on over and give it a go!
