Prep Guy

We have had so much fun together learning over the past two weeks. In Reading we continued our work on fiction texts and reading the author's punctuation. Hopefully your child is reading with expression when they see talking marks, commas, full stops, bold print and questions marks. We also worked on the short listed books every afternoon with cross age activities with Grade 6s helping Preps.

In Writing we have been learning about mini beasts. Students have chosen a minibeast to research and write an information report on. Students have also made their chosen minibeast in a diorama complete with their habitat. We look forward to students presenting their minibeast project to the grade in the coming week's as part of our Speaking and Listening curriculum.

In Maths we kept working on groups of and sharing equally. We finished this unit on Thursday with a post test. Wow! We have some very clever Preps, showing their understanding of sharing equally and making groups of equal amounts.

We absolutely loved our Book Week dress up day with some amazing outfits on the students. We listened to Alison Lester read one of her books to us from Arnhem Land with some Indigenous students. Miss Maree was also there working on a new book with Alison Lester. We had fun showing our Kindergarten friends around our fantastic school and fed the chooks. We then played together on the Prep to Grade 2 playground and had morning tea together.

Prep Guy Students Of The Week:

Last week the students chose Steven as our student of the week. Students said Steven was very respectful, treating others with a huge amount of kindness.

This week students voted for Lylah as their student of the week. The students said Lylah is so kind, tries so hard and never gives up; showing our school values of respect, responsibility and resilience all the time.

Well done Steven and Lylah; we are so proud of you.

Grade One Two

Wow, what a week we have had. Our students have been busy writing and editing their narrative stories along with looking at comprehension strategies affiliated with picture story books in preparation for Book Week. It was fantastic to see so many wonderful costumes on Wednesday and the response from students about the mixed group activities we've had each afternoon, has been tremendous.

In Mrs Beilby and Miss Stoll's class, students have been consolidating long vowels and looking at decodable texts. Some students have been putting their thinking hats on and answering inferential questions about the texts they have been reading. All students have enjoyed the hands-on activities that have included board games, collaborative games, building geometric creations using blocks and having fun with the Amazing Race about spiders! Students worked in pairs to locate cards that had been hidden around the school and then had to write down whether each statement was either a fact or opinion. It was lovely to see all the students in one two work and learn from each other.

Another highlight was the online author visit with Allison Lester and Miss Maree. They joined our video chat, read the book, Earnie Dances with a Didgeridoo. We were introduced to some of the local Aboriginal children that they were working with, and we even listened to a song they shared with us in their language. This was a special experience for everyone and very humbling. We thank Miss Maree for helping us set up the video call all the way from Darwin.

Students of the Week:

Mrs Beilby:

Congratulations to Marlie who was our student of the week. She did an outstanding job writing a short story with brilliant vocabulary and punctuation. We wish Marlie a wonderful holiday and look forward to hearing all about your trip in Canada. We will miss you.

Next week our student of the week will be Josh. Josh has demonstrated resilience and kindness. He has worked really hard in class, achieved his short-term goal of writing a short story and has been a terrific mathematician in class. Josh works hard every day and should be very proud of all his efforts in class. Well done Josh.

Ms Stoll:

Congratulations to our super star George! George was
