Deputy Principal's Report

Dear Parents,
LSO and SSO Appreciation Week
Next week, we will come together to celebrate the remarkable contributions of our dedicated Learning Support Officers (LSOs) and School Support Officers (SSOs) to our school. These individuals are often referred to as the unsung heroes, playing a vital role in holding our school's fabric together, much like glue. Yet, much of the hard work and effort invested by LSOs and SSOs remains unnoticed.
The impact that our support staff can have on individual students is undeniable. For young learners with special educational needs, having an extra helping hand can be the difference between success and failure. A lot of the hard work that our support staff do is clearly visible – from their warm greetings at the school gates to their invaluable assistance within the classroom. Their unwavering positive attitude, ability to manage constant disruptions and adapt to changes, as well as their nurturing of injured or unwell children, all demonstrate their indispensable role.
As a community, let's take a moment to express our gratitude not only during the upcoming week of celebration but on any future opportunity that might arise. Whether it's a heartfelt note of appreciation, a kind gesture, or even just a genuine smile, each act serves as a reminder that their hard work is truly valued. You are invited to come and join us in celebrating our support staff at next week's school assembly, we would love to see you there.
Healthy Harold
Throughout this week and the next, we've had the privilege of hosting a visit from the renowned character Harold. Some of us might have assumed that Harold was enjoying retirement, yet we stand corrected. He remains active, sharing his love for having a healthy body and mind.
All classes will have a chance to experience the Healthy Harold Program covering different topics that relate to their year level:
Preps: My Body Matters
Year 1: Harold's Friend Ship
Year 2: Growing Good Friends
Year 3: Friends and Feelings
Years 4-6: Relate Respect Connect
If you would like to find out more on each of these topics you can head over to their website: https://www.lifeedvic.org.au/schools/core-program/respectful-relationships
School Refusal
The topic of school refusal continues to hold its place as a central topic in both state and national education discussions. Looking at the data over the past few years, it is clear that school refusal is a growing problem.
Catholic Education Melbourne (MACS) is actively engaged in developing a comprehensive set of guidelines and support materials, aimed at aiding schools and families in effectively addressing these challenges. In the meantime, if you are struggling in this space with your own family, please understand you are not alone. We are committed to providing support and assistance to help maintain connections. Together, we can plan the best approach for a successful return to school, all while ensuring the best possible outcome for our students. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need to.
Thanks again for your ongoing support and commitment to our school,
Peggy McDonald & Steele Anderson
