Principal's Report

School Disco
The School Disco was a highlight for our students last Friday night. The organisers and volunteers had spent hours organising and setting up for the event and our children had the opportunity to enjoy a very special and fun night out. The Hall and surrounding spaces were a hub of activity and excitement. An event such as this requires many people to help to ensure everything runs smoothly. So, a huge thank you to everyone involved, with special thanks to the hard-working Year 4 and 5 parent organising teams, who made the whole event possible. The children had an absolute ball! Overseeing the events and the cleaning up was our ever smiling and hardworking PFA President, Robyn Krawitz. What a wonderful school community we have!
Choir Concerts
Last Tuesday evening our Year 3 and 4 Choirs sung their hearts out at their concert. The spirits were lifted of all in attendance, as they watched the children happily singing and dancing. We are so grateful to Julie Pitts and Tom Pitts for running our choirs and giving our students the opportunity to sing and perform – they love it!
Book Week
There was a real buzz of excitement last Friday, when the students came to school in costume, dressed as their favourite book character for the Book Parade. There were so many great costumes – well done to all involved! Thank you to the staff for immersing themselves in the enjoyment of books to come dressed as their favourite book characters too. It was also great to see so many parents at the assembly to help celebrate. Thank you to Cara Willis for her organisation of the event and to Tom Pitts, MC extraordinaire!
Inter-School Debating Competition
Gardenvale Primary School have won the local inter-school debating competition for the first time. On Wednesday last week, nine Year 6 students represented us in the Brighton Secondary College Primary Network Debating Competition. There were 32 teams from various local primary schools competing, with topics such as ’Energy drinks should be banned’, ‘After school sport should be compulsory’, and ‘The internet has ruined the English Language’. Our three teams competed in separate knockout rounds, and we were lucky to have two teams make it to the semi-finals. Gracie, Hamish and Elsa made it to the grand final and did a wonderful job arguing the negative side of the topic, "Celebrities have too much influence on teenagers." They won by a point against Bentleigh West Primary. Well done to the winners, as well as team members Alexander, Elliot, Madison, Mia and Michael. A big thanks to Brighton Secondary College for hosting such as well-organised competition.
Dads Granddads and Special Friends
We are looking forward to seeing all our dads, grandads and special friends this Friday morning with their children for our Annual Coffee and Donut morning, under the COLA from 7:45am, organised by our hard-working Parents Association.
End of Year Concert
The date of the end of year School Concert unfortunately has had to change. The concert will be held on Tuesday 12th December.
Have an enjoyable week,
Janine
