Curriculum Programs

Heights Campus - Visual Arts
What’s been happening?
At the start of this term, students were busy completing their Threads & Textiles projects from Term 2. We had many ‘chicken beanbags’, mini cushions, friendship bracelets and fabric pockets in our art room! Grade 3 - 6 were practising their sewing skills, whilst F - 2 students were learning about different types of fabrics and how to use them. Senior students were able to share their textile works of art with the Heights Campus Hub Friendship Group and watch the women busy at work on their sewing machines, creating their own textile projects!
For the second part of this term, we have been focusing on another area of art known as ‘Modelling’. Students have explored different modelling materials, such as plasticine, paper-clay and air-drying clay and experimented with various modelling tools. Although often a very messy medium (with lots of cleaning up involved), everyone has enjoyed getting their hands dirty and making wonderful 3D models.
Here is a brief overview of what students have been learning about in Visual Arts recently.
*The FLC have been learning how to change the shape of clay, when making paper-clay mice and cookie-shaped medals for Father’s Day /Special Person’s Day.
*The JLC have been combining their modelling and textile skills to create clever ‘Pocket Pets’, using both paper clay and felt. They have also been practising the technique to making a pinch pot from air-drying clay.
*The MLC have been perfecting their joining techniques to create a coil pot or dish from air-drying clay and some have planned to use these as gifts for Father’s Day /Special Person’s Day.
*The SLC have been practising their modelling techniques, including the joining of clay, to make clay pockets and decorative tiles. They have focused on creating smooth, even slabs of clay and learnt how to use tools to help them achieve this.
And finally, a HUGE congratulations to all those students who entered the Visual Arts ‘Bookmark Competition’ to celebrate Book Week. The designs were outstanding and made choosing winners very difficult indeed! Well done to all our winners on both campuses.
Here are some photos of our very talented artists with their artwork this term, from the Heights Campus…
