Snapshots from Springvale

This week, the FLC students celebrated Father’s and Friends Day; an opportunity to acknowledge and thank all of the wonderful adults in their lives. The students made special gifts to treat their visitors, they played games, read books and made honey joys to eat on the day. The Father’s Day stall was also a huge success. The students enjoyed the real life shopping experiences and learning about the gesture of buying for others.

The JLC students have been participating in a Gymnastics incursion during PE classes this week. The sessions are running for four weeks and they provide students with an opportunity to experience working with a professional gymnastics coach and building their rolling, catching, twirling and balancing skills.

Last week we celebrated Book Week and this year’s theme was ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’. The Springvale Campus staff and students got into the spirit of Book Week with some exceptional costumes, which were shown off during the annual parade. NPELS and the Community Hub families also joined in the parade.  A big congratulations to the award-winning students, staff and playgroup children. Other special events during the week included a performance for the Foundation-Grade 2 students and an author visit in the MLC and SLC. Kirsty Murray, a highly regarded author came to Springvale Rise PS to discuss her books; including the book ‘Strangers on Country’ with the students. She shared various perspectives about historical events and answered questions presented by the students.

The Springvale Campus would also like to welcome some new Education Support Staff to our team. Please welcome Julie, Roque and Nak who will be working mostly with the FLC and SLC teams. The senior students interviewed our new staff this week…

Please say hello to all three staff members and give them a very warm Springvale Rise welcome when you see them.

The School Captains ventured to Dandenong this week for the City of Greater Dandenong Children’s Advisory Group meeting. Students, along with Mrs Karup, went to Dandenong via train to meet their fellow School Captains from the schools in our network. Together they were involved in planning the Little Day Out with the council’s events planning committee, giving their opinion about the activities that should be part of the event as well as helping design the advertising banner for the day. Make sure you go and enjoy this fun, free, family event on Sunday 17th of September at Ross Reserve, Noble Park.

Take care and stay warm,
