Level 5 & 6 Wonga Weekly

Week 8, Term 3

🌿 READING AND VIEWING

In Literature Circles this week, students will be continuing to focus on the experiences of the characters and how this has shaped who they are and how they react to challenges. To support our CBL focus, they will also be reading about the concept of 'liveability' and the factors which influence this.

🪴What you can do at home:

Make sure your child is up to date with their weekly reading for their Literature Circle novel. Ask them to describe the main characters and the main events which have impacted them.

🌿 WRITING

Students are continuing to use a variety of ways to generate ideas and foster an enjoyment of writing. This will include using digital tools to create a setting to inspire a creative writing piece. Students will continue to engage with workshops by author Tristan Bancks, who shares some of his techniques and strategies which he uses to inspire his writing.

🪴What you can do at home:

Have a discussion with your child about stories and characters that you love and why you love them. Ask your child to share some of the ways in which they have been inspired to write in their class this week.

🌿 SPELLING AND GRAMMAR

🌱 Students will be investigating the different letter combinations which create the 'sh' sound (eg. shark, mansion, session, station, machine, deficient, sugar)

🌿 CBL

🌱 Our Big Idea for Term Three is 'Diversity'.

🪴Our Essential Question is:

🌏 How can I become a mindful global citizen?

🪴Our Guiding Questions are:

🌏 How do people, places and cultures differ across the world?

🌏 How does appreciating other cultures contribute to a connected global community?

🌏 How has diversity of First Nations peoples enhanced our community?

🌱 Students will complete their biome diorama to showcase their of different georgaphical environments. They will then relate this knowledge to explore the effect an environment might have on the culture and liveability of that area.
