Level 3 & 4 Wonga Weekly

Week 8, Term 3

Just a reminder regarding our Gr3&4 camp that is fast approaching...we are still awaiting a number of medical forms. We ask that you please return these to your child's classroom teacher as soon as possible, if you haven't yet done so. Thank you for your attention to this.

CBL - DIVERSITY

This week we will continue looking into the question, 'What does diversity look like in my life?' Students will investigate the things that make their own world unique and diverse.

We will also begin considering our challenge, 'Celebrate diversity and what it means to you.'

READING

This week we will continue looking at 'questioning' as a reading strategy, asking questions about characters in stories and considering the part that the characters' traits and personality plays in the narratives we read.

What you can do at home

After reading a fiction text, ask some of the following questions-

What are the character traits that you see in the main character?

What kinds of challenges did the person face?

What are the persons’ major accomplishments?

How can you prove that this person is (brave, loyal, kind, etc.)?

WRITING

This week we will focus on story telling. We will use our knowledge of character traits to help create interesting characters and think about the things that each character might say or do that is reflective of their character.

We continue practicing the conventions of writing, specifically noticing when to add punctuation to our written responses.

What you can do at home

Ask your child to come up with interesting words to describe the character traits of people they are familiar with-family members, sporting heroes, world leaders. This oral practice will help your child build and extend vocabulary, helping them to expand their written responses when they write.

MATHS

We continue to focus our thinking on how many mathematical concepts are related and connected. We will apply our knowledge to solve challenges involving addition, multiplication and division.

What you can do at home

Ask your child to log into their 'Mathletics' account for some great opportunities to practice all things related to numeracy! It is a great resource that can be easily used at home for some extra practice.

WELLBEING

Through our Respectful Relationships program students will revisit productive coping strategies to help them manage and moderate emotions in a range of familiar and unfamiliar situations.

We will also be connecting this thinking to our understanding of the 'Catastrophe Scale', asking students to consider whether the situations they are facing are really catastrophes or just something that could be solved by 'talking it out'.
