Week 8, Term 3

READING

We will be looking at the strategy of retell and determining the importance to ensure we look for the main ideas when retelling the story and eliminating the superfluous information. 

 

What you can do at home...

-Log into Reading Eggs and find a suitable text (remember to change the age for 5 - 7 years old).

-Assist your child to read their Take Home Book and complete their Reading Log each night.

-Help your child to read with expression and fluency as they read. 

-Continue to discuss all aspects of the book you or your child is reading, such as the characters, setting, connections you might make and prior knowledge you may have.

 

WRITING

We will be reflecting on our weekend and beginning to draft something for a Father's Day surprise, following the writing process of 'plan, draft, edit, revise and publish' to produce a final copy, ready to take home.

 

What you can do at home...

-Continue to help your child identify sounds in words and the letters that match those sounds. 

-Assist them in the correct letter formation and notice punctuation.

 

PHONICS 

We will be looking at the ‘wh’ and 'ng' digraphs 

 

 

What you can do at home...

-Look for words that make the 'wh' and 'ng' sound and notice the spelling pattern and how you promounce these words.

 

MATHS

We continue to look at subtraction and subtraction strategies and the connection between addition and subtraction.

 

What you can do at home...

Discuss the language around subtraction (take away, difference, subtract, lose, minus etc) and use it to work out simple verbal subtraction problems.

 

CBL

We will look at the various threats to the animals we have been studying and begin to plan how we can make a difference

 

What you can do at home...

-Discuss their favourite animal and what might be the threats for that animal and what people are currently doing to protect that animal.
