What's Happening At Milgate!

Milgate’s Vision

To provide a dynamic, inclusive learning environment that challenges students to become inquirers, thinkers and caring young people who are able to interact in the global society with respect and intercultural understanding

Acknowledgement of Country

Milgate Primary School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Wurundjeri People, and we would like to pay our respects to the elders both past and present. Staff, students and the school community understand that we thrive, learn and live on Wurundjeri Country and we stand with all cultures united as one.

National Science Week

From shadows to ziplines, our students explored, tested, and discovered during this year’s National Science Week. Across all year levels, there was an incredible buzz of curiosity as students investigated how light creates shadows, experimented with designs to make objects fly, tested how shapes affect movement through the air, and engineered speedy zipline carriers.

The week was filled with laughter, “aha!” moments, and plenty of collaborative problem-solving as students refined their ideas and shared their discoveries. A huge thank you to our STEM teacher, Steph Kim, for designing such an exciting program and bringing science to life in such a hands-on and memorable way.

Author Visit: Foundation to Year 3: Jane Godwin

Foundation to Year 3 were so lucky to have Jane Godwin visit us today. Jane has written many books, however she spoke about three books in particular Sing Me the Summer, Go Go and the Silver Shoes and Tilly. She discussed the inspiration behind her books, many memories stemming back from her childhood and life experiences. Jane spoke about her good friend Anna Walker who is a very talented illustrator and they have written 10 books together. Students also learnt that it takes one year to produce one book!

Thank you to Jane for visiting us at Milgate and inspiring us to continue to create our own stories and enjoy the love of reading and writing.

Book week Parade Reminder

We are excited to announce this year's theme for Book Week: "Book an Adventure!" Throughout next week, our students will explore the wonders of storytelling, unlocking new worlds and expanding their imaginations. As part of the festivities, we invite you to join us for our sustainable Book Week Parade on Friday the 22nd of August at 9:00am on the blue basketball. Embracing our commitment to sustainability, we will build on last year’s parade and we encourage students to dress up as their favourite book characters or authors, using recycled materials or items from home. Let's celebrate the adventure of reading while demonstrating our dedication to taking action towards a more sustainable future. We look forward to seeing you there!

Performing Arts

Our school choir will be performing a special song at assembly next Monday, 18 August.

Following this performance, lunchtime choir rehearsals will pause so Odette Strickland, Performing Arts teacher,  can focus on preparing the Year 5 and 6 musical. We’ll start up again next term, ready to learn new songs in preparation for our end-of-year concert. A reminder will be sent out early next term when rehearsals are set to resume.

Year 4 : Coding, Maths, and Maze Challenges

Our Year 4 students have been combining their digital technology skills with mathematics to tackle an exciting challenge – coding a Sphero robot to navigate a maze. Using angles, directional language, and precise measurement, students programmed their robots to make each turn and travel the correct distances. Along the way, they refined their code, solved problems, and tested new strategies, showing persistence and creativity as they worked towards a successful run. It was a fantastic way to see maths in action while building coding confidence.
