Attendance Matters

Attendance Matters – Edition 8
Dear Parents, Carers and students,
As we reflect on Term 3, we want to bring to your attention an important matter concerning student punctuality. Our recent data (see below) indicates that a number of students have been arriving late to school, especially our Year 8 & 9.
Why Punctuality Matters:
- Arriving on time helps students settle quickly into their learning, ensuring they don’t miss important instructions or activities.
- It fosters habits that will support their education and future career success.
- Being punctual demonstrates respect for teachers, classmates, and the school community.
We encourage you to talk to your child about the importance of punctuality. Some suggestions to discuss together:
Planning Ahead: Encourage your child to prepare school items the night before to avoid morning delays.
Establishing a Routine: Help your child set a consistent and manageable morning routine.
Understanding Impact: Explain how arriving late can disrupt their learning and that of their peers.
Communication: Encourage your child to share any difficulties they face in getting to school on time so we can support them.
We understand that challenges can arise and want to work with families to ensure every student arrives ready to learn every day. Please feel free to reach out to your child’s Home Group teacher if you have any questions.
Kind regards,
EMC Attendance Team
