School Hall Building Refurbishment Update

We’re edging closer and closer to completion!

As mentioned earlier this week, the exterior paint works have been impacted by the adverse weather conditions (paint and rain just don’t seem to mix). These exterior paint works will continue for the next few weeks, and possibly into the school holidays.

The good news is that all the internal works are now at the finishing off stage. The classrooms and Hall Space really do look AMAZING!

It is still hoped that we will be able to move back into the School Hall Building in the school holidays, ready for the first day of Term Four (for children) on Tuesday 7 October.

The lift is still on a boat, and will likely arrive and be installed mid-late October.

When we receive any further updates regarding these works I will pass them on.

We cannot wait to be able to welcome everyone back into the School Hall Building and return our temporary spaces back to their original form and purpose.

Father's Day Events

Our annual events for Father's Day are rapidly approaching with our Father's Day Stall (Tuesday 2 September) and Father's Day Paraliturgy and Morning Tea (Friday 5 September.) We are looking forward to gathering as a community and celebrating our candidates’ reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation at a special Mass at 6pm on Thursday 18 September.

We look forward to supporting your children through this next stage of their faith journey.

Author/Illustrator Visit

On Friday the 22 of August we met an illustrator called Charmaine. She told us that she was from Dharug and Gundungurra Country in the Blue Mountains.

Firstly, Charmaine showed us some sentences in different languages like Greek, Japanese and Arabic. She showed us that because even though you may not understand the words, if you have illustrations you can understand what they are trying to tell you.

Next Charmaine told and showed us her story, 'Found' that she made in a story competition and won. She also said that her story had to include these sentences:

I am alone

I see horses and wood ducks

I found my mother

Charmaine decided to make her story about the stolen generations. She then told us the story of when her grandma was stolen by the government as a baby which created a ripple effect in her family. This meant nobody in her family could learn the indigenous ways.

After that, we were finished with all the information and we got to vote on the next activity. We could either watch her make an artwork or Charmaine would teach us how to draw a turtle. It was a close vote, but a majority of people wanted to learn how to draw a sea turtle. First step was to draw the shape of the shell and the flippers. Then we added a head and the details. After that we added a space helmet, stars, planets and rocket ships. Our turtle was complete.

In the end, everyone had learnt a new thing and we were all excited for the next author visit next year.

2025 School Closure Days

As was communicated to families last year...

* Time in Lieu (TIL)

The new Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2022 (the Agreement) introduces a formal time in lieu (TIL) process for teachers. The Agreement provides that a principal may require a teacher to undertake work and attend a school activity outside the normal hours of attendance (i.e., in excess of the 38 hours or normal hours for a part-time teacher) and when this occurs, it will attract TIL.

Principals should prepare for the accrual and acquittal of TIL through their annual planning process. The timing of the acquittal of TIL is at the discretion of the principal, having regard to the operational needs of the school and causing the least disruption to the educational program of the school.

Principals may elect to acquit TIL through designating days during the year on which all staff and students are not required to attend school.
