Senior School

As we approach the halfway mark of Term 3, we’re finally shaking off the winter slump. The days are getting longer, brighter, the air is warmer, and with that, our mood and energy levels are lifting. This change in season brings with it a renewed willingness to tackle tasks with a more positive and enthusiastic mindset.
For our Senior school students, the pace has been intense. Assessment deadlines are stacking up, and finding the right balance can be a challenge. While academic priorities naturally come first, it’s worth remembering that our Centre for Academic Excellence (CAE) offers a range of after-school tutorial classes designed to support students in achieving their best. We encourage all students to make the most of this valuable resource.
We hosted our first study evening for Year 12 students where we had 35 students and 9 staff stay at school till 8pm to extend their study time at school. It was great to see staff and students collaborating, all in the endeavour to get ahead in their studies and prepare for their assessments. With such a successful evening, we will be looking at hosting more of these evenings in the coming weeks. Term 3 is one of the busiest as our Year 12 students complete their academic programs and prepare for the VCAA external examinations. Students are reminded to stay on top of their classwork and engross themselves in revision for what is to come.
It was a great privilege to watch some of our Year 12 students embrace book week with the Junior School, dressing up and reading to the younger year levels. The community feel of Oakleigh Grammar continues to grow, bridging the gap between our youngest students and oldest students.
On a pastoral level, our dedicated homegroup teachers continue to be the first port of call for students managing not only uniform and punctuality concerns but also delivering lessons that prioritise wellbeing.
- Year 10 students have recently engaged in sessions on body positivity, healthy eating, brain-boosting foods, the role of exercise, and the importance of quality sleep for learning and concentration.
Year 11 students have focused on navigating online safety and protecting their digital reputation, with frank discussions on cyberbullying, sexting, and the social and legal consequences of online actions.
A highlight next week is to welcome back to Oakleigh Grammar Alumni Anna Vlahandonis, who will speak to our Year 11 students about her journey after school and her impressive achievements in the biomedical field. Her story is a wonderful reminder of the remarkable paths our graduates take and how their success can inspire our current students to dream big.
We remain proud to celebrate our students’ achievements, past and present, and to use these moments to guide and motivate the next generation.
