Oakleigh Grammar Becomes a Round Square Global Member
We are delighted to share that Oakleigh Grammar has officially achieved full global membership with Round Square. This means we can now proudly refer to ourselves as a Round Square School. The opportunities this brings are vast and exciting, placing us alongside like-minded schools around the world who value international mindedness and character as essential to a future-focused education.
Already, our students are embracing these opportunities:
- Year 6 Pen Pal Exchange – Our Year 6 students are engaged in a Pen Pal exchange with St George’s School, Windsor Castle, in the United Kingdom. Through this, they are learning about the lives of students their age, broadening their perspectives, and developing an understanding of different cultures.
- Year 11 International Conference Delegates – A group of Year 11 students are preparing to represent Oakleigh Grammar at the Round Square International Conference, Beyond the Dunes in Dubai. With an incredible itinerary planned by the host schools, our delegates are excited to embrace the challenges, opportunities, and cultural experiences ahead.
- History Lab – Selected students will participate in our very first History Lab, where they will:• Collaborate with peers from different countries via Zoom.• Develop skills in evidence-based analysis and critical thinking.• Reflect on the concept of justice across historical contexts and cultures.
- Worldwide Show and Tell – Junior School students will soon take part in a global “Show and Tell” event on the theme What We Have for Breakfast. Students will share and discover the unique breakfast traditions celebrated across different cultures.
- Sustainability Collaboration – A special collaboration between our Early Learning Centre and Middle School is underway, with a shared garden project focused on sustainability and community building. Facilitator’s Bethany Rix and Dylan Smith were privileged to witness the compassion, support and community spirit being experienced by all students involved.
- Year 9 Community Project – Inspired by this year’s Round Square theme of Environmentalism, our Year 9 students have designed proposals to address soft plastic use at Oakleigh Grammar. Their work is paving the way for the school to adopt more sustainable practices.
- Roy McComish Art Award – Oakleigh Grammar is proud to announce that a student artwork has been submitted for the prestigious Roy McComish Art Award, to be showcased at the Round Square International Conference in Dubai. We warmly congratulate Panagiotis Mavroidakos on his insightful and creative piece.
Becoming a Round Square School opens new pathways for our students to grow as global citizens, equipped with the values, skills, and mindset needed to lead and contribute positively to the world. We look forward to sharing many more stories of connection, collaboration, and character in the months ahead.
