Wellbeing Focus: Supporting Children with Anxiety
As we approach the end of the school year, it’s normal for many children to feel a little more anxious. Changing routines, assessments, and tiredness can make even confident students feel unsettled. For some, these feelings are ongoing; for others, they come and go.
The good news is that children can learn to manage anxiety with calm, consistent support.
Signs to look for may include avoiding school or certain activities, tummy aches, irritability, difficulty focusing, or needing extra reassurance.
Ways to help:
- Keep routines steady to create predictability.
 - Name and normalise emotions (“It sounds like you’re feeling nervous”).
 - Break challenges into small steps and celebrate effort.
 - Encourage calm-down tools such as breathing, mindfulness, or outdoor play.
 - Focus on strengths and past successes to build resilience.

If your child’s anxiety feels persistent or overwhelming, please reach out to us here at school — we’re here to help every child feel calm, capable, and connected.
