The Arts and Technology Domain

In Week 2 of this term, the Art and Technologies team presented a wonderful exhibition and a range of engaging activities to celebrate Art and Technologies week. The exhibition was held in the Carole Bullock Gallery and the school library, where both spaces were filled with creativity and innovation. A wide selection of student works was displayed, accompanied by live music performances during the opening celebration on Tuesday, 24 October.
Throughout the week, classes visited the exhibition and voted for the People’s Choice Award. In addition to the exhibition, the team organised a variety of lunchtime activities — including an open dance rehearsal, an art competition, and a cookie-decorating session — celebrating the many areas within art and technology.
The exhibition received fantastic feedback from visitors. To continue the celebration, an Exhibition Highlights display was set up in the library corridor the following week, where the award winners were announced.
In the People’s Choice Award Technology category, Jake Walsh (Year 12, product design) received an impressive 172 votes for his beautifully crafted bar table. In the Art category, Yen Ngo (Year 7, Art) won for her detailed drawing of the Sydney Opera House. Both works exemplified the exceptional creativity and skill of our students.
The Art Acquisition Award was presented to Calum Metcalfe (Year 12, Art Creative Practice) for his artwork, 'I Can’t Remember Her Name'. In his artist statement, Calum stated that his work is about “the tangibility and fragility of memory. Once something is forgotten, it cannot be remembered in the exact same way — you cannot relive a moment that has already passed. The piece is also inspired by how modern technology can capture memories so much better than the brain, yet it will never truly replace memory.”
Congratulations also go to Nisal Mendis, the winner of the Art competition, who created an original character design showcasing imagination and technical skill.
In the end, the Art and Technologies team would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the exhibition and activities, especially the students who volunteered their time to assist. We appreciate the support of all who attended and look forward to celebrating with you again next year!
We wish all the year 12 students all the best as they begin their exams. Thank you for your hard work and dedication in supporting the Arts and Technology department during your schooling at Berwick College.
From the Arts and Technology Teaching Team.
