School News Update

Principal's Message
Dear parents and carers,
How delightful this week has been meeting parents, students, and staff at this amazing school. I have enjoyed meeting with parents and students at the gates and walking around and introducing myself to all classes.
The first week has been extremely busy learning about the school. A big thank you to Kate Nancarrow, Rhian ap Rees and Hayley Street for their support and willingness to share, along with the administration team. It takes a committed group of people to ensure that the school runs well, that the students receive the support and opportunities that they need and deserve. It has been a real joy meeting all the staff who are fully committed to ensuring Auburn South Primary School is a great place for our students.
I look forward to working alongside each of them, and you, to promote growth and development in all areas.
If you have a chance to attend one of the upcoming sessions to meet with me, I look forward to seeing you there. If not, please stop and say hello if you see me in the yard.
Sincerely,
Travis
We are delighted to invite you to a special get together to meet our new Principal, Travis Paterson.
This informal event is a wonderful opportunity to connect over tea and coffee, learn more about the vision for our school, and ask any questions you may have.
We are offering two sessions, please RSVP by calling the office on 9882 2140 or email auburn.south.ps@education.vic.gov.au with your preferred date.

Hats Reminder
Just a reminder that as of next Monday 13 October, all students are expected to wear a hat during outside breaks and during outdoor learning, this includes Physical Education.
As per the Department of Education Sun Protection policy, all Primary School age children must wear a hat outdoors during school times. Students not wearing a hat will be redirected to shaded areas to play.
Anniversary Acknowledgment
October 29 will mark the anniversary of the tragic accident that occurred at our school in 2024. This date holds deep significance for our community, and we acknowledge that for students, staff, and families there will be a mix of emotions including grief, sadness, and reflection.
Anniversaries of such events can be incredibly difficult, but they also offer an opportunity to come together in meaningful ways. They remind us of the importance of support, connection, and continued healing within our school community.
As we approach this anniversary, our school is thoughtfully considering ways to acknowledge the day with sensitivity and care. While plans are still being finalised, we want to share the following details to help families prepare:
- School will conclude early at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 29.
- A commemorative service is planned to begin at approximately 1:45 PM. (This time will be confirmed closer to the date.)
This arrangement allows students the option to leave school and return with their families to attend the service, should they choose to do so. We recognise that everyone experiences grief differently, and participation is entirely a personal choice. Families, students, and staff are encouraged to do what feels right for them.
We will provide more information about the service and other ways we may be commemorating the day in the coming weeks. Support will also be available for students and staff who may find this time particularly challenging.
Cheers to 100 Year of ASPS
