Year 1/2

Literacy
This term, students began by using their holiday bags to write a holiday recount. This activity supported them in generating ideas and sequencing events in their writing. Thank you for helping your children prepare their holiday bags, it made a wonderful difference!
Students also revisited workbook expectations, practising how to rule lines neatly, add dates and titles, and present their work with care. We are so proud of the effort and pride students are showing in their books, and it’s fantastic to see their growth throughout the year.
We have now begun exploring traditional literature, including fables, tall tales, and fairy tales. Through these texts, students are applying comprehension strategies to understand meaning, summarise key ideas, and analyse characters.
In writing, students are developing their descriptive skills by using their five senses to bring characters, settings, and emotions to life. They have also been practising how to use dialogue effectively and expand their vocabulary to enhance their writing.
We have been truly amazed by the creativity and progress students have shown, and we can’t wait to see their talents shine as they write their own full narratives in the coming weeks!
