Learning About Stress Management in RRRR

Respectful Relationships Curriculum – Supporting Student Wellbeing

This term, students will be exploring the Respectful Relationships topic of Stress Management as part of our school’s commitment to building emotional literacy and wellbeing skills.

Stress management is all about recognising the feelings we experience when things feel challenging, and learning positive ways to cope. Everyone experiences stress from time to time — even children. It might be caused by things like schoolwork, friendships, changes at home, or trying something new. Learning how to manage these feelings helps children build resilience, confidence, and emotional awareness.

During lessons, students will learn to:

  • Recognise body clues that tell us we’re feeling stressed (e.g. tense muscles, fast heartbeat, upset stomach).
  • Name and understand emotions, using words to describe how they feel.
  • Explore calming strategies such as deep breathing, mindfulness, gentle stretching, or spending time in nature.
  • Problem-solve and seek support from trusted adults when things feel overwhelming.
  • Practise self-care habits like healthy sleep, movement, and connecting with friends.

These lessons are taught in age-appropriate ways through stories, discussions, art, and role-play activities that help children understand that stress is a normal part of life — and that we can all learn ways to manage it well.

Families can support this learning by talking about feelings at home, modelling positive coping strategies, and reminding children that it’s always okay to ask for help.

Together, we’re helping our students develop lifelong skills for emotional wellbeing and resilience.

October is ADHD Awareness Month

Understanding and Supporting Students with ADHD

October is ADHD Awareness Month, a time to learn more about Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and how we can support children who think, learn and experience the world a little differently.

ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental conditions in children. It can affect a student’s ability to concentrate, manage impulses and stay organised — but it also brings unique strengths, such as creativity, curiosity, and boundless energy.

Children with ADHD may find it challenging to focus for long periods, follow multi-step instructions or sit still during quiet activities. However, with understanding and the right supports in place, they can thrive at school and beyond.

At our school, we value every child’s individuality and work together to create inclusive classrooms where all learners can succeed. Teachers use strategies such as:

  • Breaking tasks into smaller steps
  • Providing movement breaks
  • Using visual schedules and reminders
  • Celebrating effort and progress

Families can help at home by establishing consistent routines, encouraging healthy sleep and physical activity, and working closely with teachers to share what works best for their child.

Let’s take this month to celebrate neurodiversity and remind one another that every brain is different — and that’s what makes our community so vibrant and strong.

Entitled : Raising Responsible, Respectful Kids

Wednesday 5 November, 7pm

On-demand gratification has become the modern-day norm, and our children have never known anything different. As a result, parents are noticing a clear pattern of declining levels of resilience and frustration tolerance. We naturally want them to be happy and successful, but we also recognise that a sense of entitlement can hinder their journey. While our hearts yearn to give them the world, we know it’s equally important to nurture gratitude, responsibility, and respect within their hearts.

Our children are growing up in a world defined by instant gratification. They’ve never known a time when things weren’t immediately accessible, which has contributed to declining resilience and frustration tolerance. As parents, we yearn to give them the world and shield them from disappointment, but we also know that fostering gratitude, responsibility, and respect is essential for their true happiness and success.

Entitled with Dr Justin Coulson will dive deep into the issue of entitlement. We’ll explore its root causes, its impact on our children’s development, and most importantly, we’ll equip you with practical strategies to turn things around. You’ll learn how to shift your child’s mindset from “gimme” to “thank you”, and how to foster a sense of appreciation even in an age of abundance.

In this presentation, we will navigate the challenges of parenting in today’s world and discover how to raise children who are not just responsible and respectful, but empowered, resilient, and ready to make a positive contribution to the world.
