School Wide Behaviour Expectations: Supporting Success for Every Student

At Hampton Primary School, we’ve been working together as a staff to develop clear, consistent School-Wide Behaviour Expectations. This shared framework outlines the behaviours we want to see across all areas of our school, and reflects our commitment to ensuring every student has the best opportunity to succeed.

This work stems from a strong foundation; Hampton PS already has a positive, caring and respectful school culture. Our goal has been to build on this by creating greater clarity and consistency around expectations and responses, so that students experience the same high standards and positive support in every classroom and setting.

Research shows that when schools explicitly teach and reinforce expected behaviours, students are far more likely to feel safe, connected, and capable of managing themselves successfully. Our approach aligns closely with the Department of Education’s Positive Climate for Learning and the Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) frameworks, both of which emphasise the power of proactive, positive teaching of behaviour rather than relying on reactive measures.

Through this shared framework, we aim to:

  • Positively support all students to understand and demonstrate expected behaviours.
  • Explicitly teach what these behaviours look like in different contexts.
  • Recognise and reinforce positive choices through praise, consistent language, and awards.
  • Provide clarity and fairness so students know what is expected and how they can be successful.

We also value the important partnership between school and home. When parents and carers use similar language and reinforce these expectations, it strengthens students’ understanding and helps them apply these behaviours beyond the classroom.

We’re currently developing family handouts to share more about our expectations and how you can support them at home. We look forward to continuing this positive, school-wide focus that empowers our students to thrive both socially and academically.

Father’s Day Stall

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making our Father’s Day Stall such a success this year! Together, it raised an incredible $3,603 in profit, a fantastic result that will go directly towards supporting our Kitchen Garden Project.

A special mention to Natalie Whiston for all her behind-the-scenes organisation and support with setup, and to Melissa Cajili and Sian Adams for their help in setting up and running the stall. It was a wonderful community effort and a great example of what we can achieve when families and staff work together. Thank you again to everyone who contributed their time and energy!

Brighton Yacht Club Sail

Grade 1 and 2 students have been busily decorating a special sail (pictured above) donated from Brighton Yacht Club to celebrate their 150th birthday. We are pleased to be able to display our students' hard work in our school to brighten up an area.

Grade 3/4

On Friday 5th September, we competed in the Grade 3/4 inter school basketball competition. I am proud to share that all four teams made it through to the semi-finals. In the boys’ competition, Hampton played Hampton in the semi-final – and Hampton won! The boys then went on to take out the grand final. In the girls’ competition, the team that got into the grand final came away as winners! Both matches showed an impressive display of teamwork. This means both our boys’ and girls’ grand final teams will now go on to the regional competition! Congratulations to our grand finalists and good luck for regionals: Livi, Leila, Fee, Willow, Flossy, Mackenzie, Murphy, Josie, Scarlett , Jack, Oli, Riley, Finn, Fletcher, Louie, Ned, Lewie

Grade 1/2

On Tuesday 9th September, we also had our Grade 1 and 2 basketball competition. It was wonderful to see so many players giving their best and supporting one another. Basketball Victoria selected Rising Stars from each of our teams, which is an award given to a player who showed great potential and sportsmanship.

From Grade 1 boys - Congratulations Hartley and Patty

From Grade 2 boys - Congratulations Levi and Oscar

From the Grade 1 and 2 girls’ team - Congratulations Patrina and Tessa

Grade 5/6

On Thursday 11th September, we also had our Grade 5 and 6 basketball competition. We had a fair bit of pressure on our shoulders because Alana and Yemi had been carrying a perfect win–loss record.

The last time something like this was achieved was way back in 2000, when Essendon went through the home-and-away season undefeated.

We rose to the challenge and played our hearts out - and Hampton came away with nothing but wins.

A clean sweep, a perfect day, and the record stays alive for our coaches!

Can the following grand finalists please come out to collect their medals. Please hold your applause until the end: Griffin, Harry, Josh, Jenson, Oscar, Sam, Ellis, Zach

Thank you for our wonderful coaches Alana and Yemi! Three cheers for Yemi and Alana
