Student Leadership Report

Good afternoon Newtown families,

Here is this fortnight’s newsletter.

We just want to thank personally from the school captains, all the staff for helping with the school concert, especially Mrs. Bedson for planning it all and even moving it to the Geelong Arts Centre. We think it was great for all the students to be stepping out of their comfort zones and onto the stage in front of a lot people and in a big theatre.

Preps - In reading the preps have been making predictions and representing them with pictures, in writing they are doing weekend recounts. The preps also went on an excursion to Geelong collage to see what it looks like for swimming next week

Juniors - The juniors have been writing persuasive texts and analysing persuasive texts. And in math they have been doing multiplication and division.

Middles - The middles have been reading their literacy circles and writing summaries about their book and in writing they have been writing recounts about the school concert.

In math they have been learning all the different types of ways to add and subtract. 

Juniors - in Specialists, they have been creating mini golf courses in art, basketball in sport and they have been acting out plays.

Interviewing a year 6 from SLM:

School captain: What have you been doing in reading so far?

Year 6 response: all seniors have been summarising 'Gathering Blue' whilst teacher reads aloud.

School captain: What about in writing?

Year 6 response: writing ifive chapter books, influenced by the 'Giver' and 'Gathering Blue'

School captain: What have you been doing in math?

Year 6 response:  fractions, percentage and using banker for life skills

School captain: What have you been doing in specialist?

Year 6 response: basketball 

School captain:  What have you been doing in music / performig arts?

Year 6 response: in music we have been looking at environmental crisis while demonstrating acting

School captain: Anything else?

Year 6  response: nope.
