🗣️ Vocabulary of the Week
Uncontainable- not able to be contained
Maintenance- the idea of caring about something and keeping it going
Continental- describing something to do with a continent
Subcontinent- a smaller part of a larger continent (usually referring to the Indian subcontinent (India and its bordering countries)
Intercontinental- describing something to do with more than one continent
➗ Maths: Cartesian Planes and Percentages
Last week, students focused on Cartesian planes. Students revised the quadrants as well as how to write coordinates correctly. Students were asked to read coordinates as well as plot on a Cartesian plane. This knowledge will be vital for students in the coming weeks as we deepen this by looking at creating geometric shapes with transformations.
This week we have focused on percentages, as well as converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages. This has been looked at through the lens of financial maths and discounts of items, for example 75% off $45 and 23.3% off $29.
📊 Mathematics Preview:
Students will continue looking at financial maths, as well as estimating with percentages, decimals, and fractions. Students will also continue looking at Cartesian planes and maths terms such as 'reflect', 'transform', 'translate', and 'rotate'.
🌍 Knowledge Rich - Immigration and International Interaction🌏
Students have been working hard in Knowledge Rich over the last fortnight, deepening their understanding of immigration around the world and in Australia. Students have been building a timeline in their book, tracking important dates, including the increase in population to Australia during the Gold Rush. We discussed the racism that occurred during this time, as well as the 'White Australia Policy'. Students have been asked to answer big questions such as 'What was migration like after WWII?' and 'How is migrating and seeking refuge different?"
