📖 Literacy

In Knowledge Rich, we have continued exploring the fascinating world of kings and queens by reading and discussing some much loved stories. Our favourites have included CinderellaThe Princess and the Pea, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Through these stories, we have been focusing on retelling and sequencing events, helping students understand how stories are structured from beginning to end.

In Sentence Level writing, we’ve been continuing our work on what makes a complete sentence. The children have enjoyed identifying and fixing sentence fragments, discussing whether a subject or verb is missing, and working together to turn fragments into full, meaningful sentences.

In Literacy, we have begun our new unit based on the picture book Giraffes Can’t Dance. Over the next two weeks, we’ll be looking closely at this text, exploring its structure, meaning, and vocabulary, and using it to inspire rich discussions and thoughtful responses.

Preview-Prep students will continue their Literacy unit of ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’ and then move onto the story ‘The Gruffalo’. In Word Work we will be explicitly teaching and applying the digraphs ee and ea.

➗ Maths

This week, we completed our unit on Data — learning to both ask and answer yes/no questions confidently. We also revisited Location and positional language: using terms like on top, beside, next to, under, behind, and so on, to correctly describe where an object is placed.

Preview - Next fortnight we will revisit our Counting and Place value unit.

Wellbeing

Over the past fortnight, students have been learning about gender and identity. Students took part in a voting game where they shared their likes and dislikes. Through this activity, they learned that it’s okay to have different interests from their friends and that everyone is unique. Students also discussed how girls can be similar or different to one another, and how boys can also share similarities and differences. E.g ‘l like football’, ‘I like Minecraft’ and ‘I like pink’.

Preview -

Next fortnight, students will explore through games and discussions how anyone can choose to be whatever they want to be, while also practising how to be both strong and gentle.
