Principal Message

Be Kind, Be safe, Be respectful, Be responsible, Be resilient, Be ready
Dear Parents and Carers,
Term 4 is a time of change, with students changing classes and teachers, new people becoming part of the community, and people leaving. It's hard for parents, staff, and students. Change is hard because our brains are wired to favor safety, routine, and familiarity over uncertainty—even when the change is positive.
Why change feels so difficult and what’s happening beneath the surface:
Survival instinct: The brain’s primary job is to keep us safe. It interprets change as a potential threat, triggering stress responses even when the change is beneficial.
Comfort in routine: Familiar habits and environments offer predictability. Even if they’re not ideal, they feel safer than the unknown.
Now, change also has positive aspects.
Change brings growth, new opportunities, and fresh perspectives—it’s often the catalyst for personal and professional breakthroughs.
Here’s a breakdown of the most powerful benefits of embracing change:
Builds resilience: Facing change strengthens your ability to adapt and bounce back from challenges.
Encourages learning: Change forces you to acquire new skills, knowledge, and habits, which can lead to self-discovery and confidence.
Shifts mindset: Change challenges your assumptions and broadens your worldview, helping you become more open-minded and empathetic.
Boosts adaptability: Regular exposure to change makes you more flexible and better equipped to handle future transitions
I hope the explanation helps us all cope well with the upcoming changes at Our Lady Star of the Sea.
Keep smiling
Cathy
