VETA Retreat

Year 11 students participating in VETA had the opportunity to go on their 2nd Veta Morphus retreat into the CBD from Friday to Sunday. The theme of this retreat was “Missions” and what this could look like in different contexts.

The retreat more broadly involved time to mix in community with those from other peer groups, groups sessions by guest speakers, prayer, worship, “Bless the city”, and dinner out as a group. God moved powerfully over the weekend and it was truly incredible to see how our students engaged with the weekend. I was particularly proud of how our students engaged with the “Bless the city” activity. This involved students coming up with and actioning an idea to bless those in the city. Our group split into 2 smaller groups both focussed on blessing those sleeping rough. Students handed out new socks, bottles of water and some other necessities along with encouraging bible verses. Some students shared a highlight or a meaningful moment below.

“My highlight of this retreat was being able to bless others and realise how privileged we are to be able to have these opportunities. I found it hard to see how some of the homeless people were surprised when we spoke to them, and it showed me how we need to be more observant and compassionate to those around us and not just focus on our own lives and destinations.” - Zoe McMaster

“During the Veta retreat we got to go around the city as a group of guys and bless homeless people with food and water. This was a highlight for me as we got to actually step out of our comfort zone and live out our faith by sharing it with others and talking to homeless people about God and getting to pray for them.” - Mitch Hooper

An impactful moment from the VETA retreat was the worship experience. It was a big highlight for me because it was really special to see everybody worshipping God and coming together with such genuine passion and unity, creating an atmosphere that felt both powerful and deeply personal.” - Aliya Holbrook

“The main highlight of this Veta retreat was definitely the 'Bless the City' activity. It was a valuable experience in helping people in need with fellow Christians and gave me a new perspective of my surrounding environment. Overall this was a great camp and it was good to reconnect with the Veta students from other schools and learn more about how we can be a part of God's mission.” - Karsten Sith

SIS Sports: Junior Boys Soccer Team & Intermediate Girls Indoor Cricket team

The Junior Boys Soccer Team went down 6–0 to Cornish last week before backing up with a thrilling 6–5 loss to Padua College Tyabb on Tuesday, May 12th. It was an absolute shootout and a fantastic game of soccer. Lucas Earl was outstanding in goals, leaping around like a ninja to deny what looked like certain goals on numerous occasions. Vaughn, Will and Neo began combining really well as a team, using clever through balls, kicking to advantage and moving the ball into space to create attacking opportunities. Our defence continues to improve, and the way the boys are working together and moving the ball to each other gets better with every training session and game.

The Intermediate Girls Indoor Cricket Team played Balcombe Grammar in their opening game on Friday, May 8th, and came away with a fantastic first-up win, 150 runs to 112. The girls batted confidently, ran hard between the wickets and looked to score aggressively by hitting into the netting. Emily, Elise and Lucy took some outstanding catches, while Ebony bowled superbly to restrict runs throughout her overs. Ava, Jasmine, Emilia, Winter and Georgia worked brilliantly as batting partners, communicating well and helping each other know when to push for runs and when to stay put. A major highlight for many of the girls was taking catches off the netting and producing exciting run outs with accurate throws at the stumps.
