The most powerful words in history
"He is not here — he has risen!" Luke 24:6
Imagine being one of the women who walked to the tomb on that first Sunday morning. They carried spices to anoint Jesus' body. They carried grief in their hearts. They expected a sealed stone and silence.
What they found instead changed everything.
"Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!"
Luke 24:5–6
The empty tomb is one of the most powerful symbols in all of history — not because of what is in it, but because of what is not. An empty tomb means death did not have the final word. It means the promises Jesus made were not buried with him. It means the story was not over.
Now that Easter Sunday has passed, it can be easy to 'move on', so to speak. But the empty tomb is not a once-a-year reminder — it is an every day truth. Every morning we wake up, the tomb is still empty. Every time we face something that feels impossible or hopeless, the tomb is still empty. Every time we wonder if God is really there, the tomb is still empty.
The disciples didn't fully understand what had happened right away. They were confused, frightened, and overwhelmed. But over time, the reality of the resurrection transformed timid fishermen into bold messengers who turned the world upside down.
The same risen Jesus walks with us today — in our classrooms, our friendships, our struggles, and our joys. The empty tomb is his promise to us: I am alive, and because I live, you will live also (John 14:19).
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you that the tomb is empty — that death could not hold you. Help us to live this week with the confidence and joy that comes from knowing you are alive. When we face hard days, remind us of Easter morning. Amen.
Blessings!
