VM BLAZE AID CAMP:

Recently, our Year 12 students attended the BlazeAid camp in Longwood, an experience designed to strengthen both leadership capabilities and a wide range of Personal Development Skills (PDS). The camp provided a valuable opportunity for students to step outside their comfort zones and engage in meaningful, hands-on work while supporting rural communities.

BlazeAid is a volunteer-based organisation that assists farmers and families in rebuilding after natural disasters, particularly through fencing and land restoration. By taking part in this initiative, students not only contributed to a real and impactful cause but also developed a deeper understanding of community responsibility and resilience.

Throughout the camp, students were challenged to demonstrate leadership in practical settings. Whether it was organising tasks, working collaboratively in teams, or taking initiative in unfamiliar situations, they were encouraged to lead by example. These experiences helped build confidence, communication skills, and the ability to problem-solve effectively under pressure.

Alongside leadership, students strengthened a variety of key PDS skills, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, adaptability, resilience, and a strong work ethic. Working closely with others required clear communication and cooperation, while the physical and unfamiliar nature of the tasks helped students become more adaptable and resilient.

Overall, the BlazeAid Longwood camp was a valuable experience that supported both personal and social growth. The skills developed will benefit students not only in their final year of school but also in future work and life experiences.

We are proud of the positive attitude and effort shown by all students who attended.
