MacLellan House Harmony Day Liturgy: Weaving Our Community Together

Last term MacLellan House led a beautiful and moving liturgy to celebrate Harmony Day, deeply rooted in their house charism of acceptance. The service was a wonderful reminder that no matter where we come from or what our story is, we all truly belong here in our St John’s community.

Drawing inspiration from the book Afloat and the scripture "...that their hearts may be encouraged as they are knit together in love" (Colossns 2:2), the students reflected on how working together helps us stay strong during challenging times. MacLellan house leaders Miyah and April guided the community through a powerful physical reflection, weaving yarn together.  Every student created a weave that will be combined as a community weave and displayed in the foyer.  This act beautifully illustrated how our individual differences; our different colours, languages, and smiles can be woven tightly together to build a strong, united raft that keeps everyone safe and supported.

A special highlight of the liturgy was seeing our students step forward to celebrate the rich tapestry of our school. They proudly shared the different languages spoken at their homes, showcased beautiful national dress, and stood alongside the friends who "pull them back into the boat" when they feel adrift. Every thread was woven together in love whilst students sang together.

As we move forward, we invite all families to carry the spirit of this Harmony Day liturgy in their pockets:

May we practice acceptance by listening before we speak, and by smiling before we judge. Together, we are safe. Together, we are strong. Together, we stay afloat.
