SEL - Character Competencies

Building Resilience

As part of our ongoing Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program, students are exploring the character competency of Resilience.

Through a range of engaging collaborative challenges, students are discovering that resilience is not simply about “never giving up.” They are learning that it is normal to feel frustrated, disappointed or unsure when things don't go to plan. Resilience is about recognising these feelings, taking a moment to regulate, adapting our approach and asking, “What is my next helpful step?”

Students are also exploring how challenges and mistakes can help us learn, grow and build confidence. Through teamwork, problem-solving and reflection, they are considering how they can approach future challenges differently and use setbacks as opportunities to develop new strategies.

We encourage families to continue these conversations at home by asking your child:

Remember: resilience doesn't mean that challenges don't affect us, it means we develop the skills to respond, adapt and keep moving forward.

Attendance

We are pleased to celebrate some fantastic improvements in our school attendance! Our overall attendance has increased by 3.2% over the last week which is a wonderful achievement and reflects the ongoing commitment of our students, families and staff to ensuring students are at school, ready to learn and making the most of every opportunity.

We have also seen a 20% increase in explained absences. Thank you to families for keeping the school informed when students are unable to attend. Providing an explanation helps us maintain accurate attendance records and, importantly, enables us to work together to support every student’s learning and wellbeing.

Every day at school counts! Thank you to our families for continuing to prioritise regular attendance and helping our students make the most of their time at school.

PACER

We are pleased to inform our school community that our recent Canberra excursion has been supported through a rebate of $45 per student, provided under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) program. This federal government initiative assists schools in covering costs associated with educational visits to Canberra.

During this enriching excursion, students deepened their understanding of Australia's democratic processes, history, and civic responsibilities. The program included visits to:

Parliament House

Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House

Australian War Memorial

National Museum of Australia

These experiences directly supported the Civics and Citizenship curriculum, helping students connect classroom learning with real-world institutions and historical contexts.
