PREP AA

Hello families! 

These last two weeks have absolutely flown! I am hoping you all have a healthy and safe school holidays and enjoy a well deserved rest. This is what we have been up to these last two weeks... 

READING AND WRITING: 

In reading we have been focusing on strategies to help us read and write, being able to sound out and hear others sound out to see if we can decode words. We have been playing partner reading games to strengthen understanding and teamwork when it comes to those really tricky words! 

We have taken a well deserved break from readers from the term and focused on finding our confidence with making mistakes when blending sounds. In class we have been working on making mistakes, feeling confident to try again and realizing that reading and writing are two very hard skills! I am so proud of how our mentalities have changed and am excited to see where we progress next semester. 

NUMERACY: 

We have been consolidating knowledge of number names and numerals up to 20, we have been ordering from smallest to largest and recognizing collections. We have been doing some end of term revision, mainly focusing on using our strategies and hands on materials that can help us solve a problem! 

HUMANITIES: 

In Geography, we have been continuing to explore Australia, recognizing where in Australia we live and studying our weather patterns. It has been awesome to look into this term as in Victoria, our weather is constantly changing! Students have loved learning more about our country and local community this term. 

Special events: 

Pyjama day: 

We had a beautiful Pyjama day, we spent the day working on Emotional Regulation techniques and watching Inside Out together with the 1/2s. We enjoyed an egg and bacon roll for lunch out in the sunshine and it is exactly what we needed this late in the term! 

Fish and Chip Lunch: 

We had a beautiful day today enjoying our Fish and Chip lunch together.

We have reached the end of term 2!

We wrapped up the term with lots of revision and finishing off work. In reading, we have been revising how to identify the key elements in stories. We have also been looking at identifying the beginning, middle and end of a story. In writing, we have been finalising our narrative draft and typing our final copy onto the computers. In maths, we have been revising numbers. We created some skip counting caterpillars to show our knowledge of skip counting, they turned out so cute!

In week 9 on Monday-Wednesday, Miss Boddy and Miss A went on an adventure with the grade 3-6 students. We had our teddy bear picnic and participated in lots of other fun activities with all the juniors combined together. On Thursday of week 9, we had our wellbeing day. While in our pyjamas, we did lots of activities around the zones of regulations and emotions. We also watched the movie Inside Out which we really enjoyed. 

From all of us in the junior team, we wish you a very happy and relaxing holiday and we will see you when term 3 begins.
