Dolphin Naming Competition

A rare opportunity has come up for the Marine Ambassadors this year - a chance to name one of the common dolphins in Port Phillip! This doesn't happen very often, however #84 is the fourth identified third generation common dolphin calf, so it is time to give them a name. 

We name some of the 153 identified common dolphins for a variety of reasons. Some are named based on their identifying features, others have been named after our beloved supporters, and very occasionally, there is an opportunity for ambassadors to name a dolphin. #84 was born in May of 2021 and the sex of #84 is not currently known. They have at least one sibling that was born in February 2019.

Our Marine Ambassadors have chosen the name “Melodie” as our school submission, as we think it sounds like a great name for a dolphin. We hope that we are the winners!
