Principal's Ponderings

From our Principal - Mr Chad Smit

With Sincere Gratitude

On Thursday this week we will again honour our founders and all those who have blessed our school with their service over the years. I am reminded of the profound impact that service, heart and commitment have on our community. Our school is a beacon of love and light because of the dedication and selflessness of those who have served with a heart full of love, reflecting the essence of Christ’s teachings.

Colossians 3:23-24 beautifully captures the spirit we strive to embody: 'Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.' These words remind us that our efforts, no matter how small, are significant in the eyes of God and contribute to the greater good.

Service is not merely an act but a reflection of our hearts. Mother Teresa once said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” This profound truth encourages us to serve one another with a love that mirrors the love of Jesus. Our commitment to service is a testament to our faith and dedication to living out His teachings.

In honouring the essence of love, we look to Jesus, who came not to be served but to serve (Matthew 20:28). His life was a continuous act of love and service, and as followers, we are called to emulate His example. Billy Graham once noted, “The highest form of worship is the worship of unselfish Christian service.” When we serve others, we are not only meeting their needs but also worshiping God through our actions.

This week we particularly honour Melanie Sargison, who has served at DCS for 20 remarkable years. Melanie’s dedication to supporting and nurturing our students has been a cornerstone of our community. Her unwavering focus on the wellbeing and success of each student has left an indelible mark on our school. Her service, characterised by love and generosity, is an inspiring example of living out Jesus’ love.

Melanie’s journey with us is a true testament to the power of commitment and heart. She has tirelessly worked to ensure that every student feels valued, supported and capable of achieving their best. Her legacy is one of compassion, dedication and a deep-seated belief in the potential of every child. She will always emulate the heart of Devonport Christian School.

As we celebrate Melanie’s contributions and the countless others who have served our school this week, let us remember the importance of service, heart and commitment.

Let us strive to carry forward the torch of love and service, ensuring that our actions reflect the teachings of Christ. May we continue to work together as a community, uplifting and supporting one another in the spirit of love and service.

Thank you Melanie and thank you Founders.

Shalom
