Year 9 Child Studies

As a part of their elective studies, the Year 9 Child Studies class were able to complete a second visit to TGs Armidale to gain valuable and practical insights into the role of a childcare educator. This excursion was able to complement the theoretical learning about the care of a newborn and young child which is currently being studied this term.

Having hands-on, practical experience allowed students to observe and partake first hand, the daily routines and activities involved with looking after young children. They had the opportunity to see the practical application of some of the theoretical context studied such as comforting, feeding, sleeping and safety routines. Being able to visit a childcare centre allowed the students to appreciate the complex responsibilities involved with caring for young children and interacting with the professionals. They had opportunities to ask questions and learn about their experiences and best practice in child care.

Overall, the students were able to reflect on their experiences and describe the different care requirements of a newborn/infant, as well as the range of equipment and resources available to assist in the care of a newborn/infant.
